We are closely monitoring the developing situation in parts of the Middle East, including Dubai and the wider United Arab Emirates (UAE), following recent military activity in the region.
The UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) is currently advising against all but essential travel to certain affected areas. Customers should check the latest official guidance before travelling:

We understand this situation may cause concern. The information below explains how travel insurance may respond.
I am currently in Dubai or the UAE – am I covered?
If you are already abroad in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, or elsewhere in the UAE:
- Emergency medical cover continues in line with your policy terms.
- If you are injured or require urgent assistance, contact your emergency medical assistance provider immediately (details are in your policy documents).
- Follow instructions from local authorities and monitor FCDO advice.
If you are unable to return home as planned due to disruption:
All of our policies provide an automatic extension of cover if you are already abroad (but you must take the first available flight home).
As insurer positions may vary slightly, we recommend contacting your claims team if you are unsure, details can be found in your policy wording.
I am due to travel to Dubai or the Middle East – can I cancel my trip?
You'll need to speak to your tour operator or travel agent relating to the cancellation of your trip, they should provide options of a refund or alternative travel arrangements.
Cancellation cover depends on:
When you purchased your policy.
The date the official travel advice changed.
The specific terms and conditions of your policy.
In general:
If you purchased your policy before the FCDO advised against travel to your destination, cancellation cover may apply (subject to policy wording), however, you should, in the first instance, contact your airline/tour operator.
If you purchased your policy after official advice changed, this may be considered a known event and cancellation claims may not be covered.
Each case is assessed individually, it is important to follow the guidance from your airline/tour operator as most travel insurance policies will NOT provide cover if you simply choose to no longer travel.
What if my airline cancels my Dubai flight?
If your flight is cancelled:
- Contact your airline or travel provider first.
- Request rebooking or a refund.
- Keep all written confirmation and receipts.
Travel Insurance may cover additional expenses that cannot be recovered elsewhere, depending on policy terms.
If alternative travel plans have been made or your tour operator/travel agent have re-arranged your trip you may be able to update your dates and/or destination shown on your policy.
This is subject to usual acceptance criteria and in line with policy terms and conditions. Please contact one of our team to help you with this.
Does travel insurance cover war, military conflict or missile attacks?
All of our Travel Insurance policies have a general exclusion relating to:
- War
- Invasion
- Civil war Military or armed conflict
However:
- Emergency medical treatment is typically still covered for customers already abroad unless specifically excluded.
- Cover for disruption may be limited depending on policy wording.
Please refer to your policy wording for full details.
What should I do if I am currently in Dubai or an affected area?
- Remain indoors in a secure location where advised.
- Follow instructions issued by local authorities.
- Monitor FCDO updates.
- Contact your airline regarding return travel.
- Contact your insurer’s emergency assistance team if you need medical support.
In extreme situations, the UK Government may organise assisted departures.
